Hittite Abacus

This piece is a ceramic interpretation of the ancient ceremonial standards found in the royal tombs of Alaca Hoyuk, approximately 2500–2250 BCE. The central motif features a geometric, grid-like sun disk a symbol believed by archaeologists to represent the sun’s journey. Surrounding the frame are stylized figures of stags (deer), which were sacred animals in ancient Anatolian cultures, often associated with protection and the divine. Hand-formed ceramic, metallic matte black.
